I make stock fences that make livestock management easier for you on your farm or lifestyle property.
What these post and batten fences include
Strainer posts at the corners and ends. Each with stays, breast blocks and foots that keep the fence solid and long lasting. Quarter, half or full round posts in between, your choice. I will foot the low points so that posts do not pull up over time from the strain of the fence. Battens, spaced between the posts holding the wires. Your choice of number of wires, I am happy to recommend between 7, 8 and 9 based on your needs. I can also recommend whether you add a hot wire and am happy to install that also.
I may also recommend that your fence include permanent wire strainers so that it can be easily strained over the years of use.
How many wires should you choose for your fence?
Seven wire suits cattle where you are not worried about anything smaller getting through. Though without an electric wire cattle can get pushy and damage fences.
Eight wire is the general purpose farm fence and what most Rotorua blocks end up with.
Nine wire tightens the bottom spacings for sheep, lambs and anything else that will test the gap under the bottom wire.
What decides the price
Corners and ends. Every corner that needs a strainer assembly increases cost. This is the most expensive part of a fence.
Access. A property with easy transport of materials keeps the job moving. On steep paddocks posts and wire needs to be carted by hand.
Whether the old fence comes out first. Removal is its own job, and old wire is slow to strip out properly.
Wire count. Seven, eight or nine changes both what goes in the ground and how long it takes. Though one or two wires makes a minimal cost difference in time and material.
Whether water needs to run alongside. If the new fence creates a paddock it might need water run to it.

What is included
Once you accept a quote I will bring the materials, the gear and the team. You can also opt to organise your own material. We consider a job done after we have made the place tidy and presentable, that clean-up is included in the quote. If you want materials like an old fence carted away and dumped, let me know and I can add that job to the quote also.

Where the gate sits decides whether you can move stock on your own or need a second person. Where the water sits decides whether you can subdivide again in five years without redoing the work. What the fence has to hold decides the wire spacing.

Common questions
How long does a stock fence last?
A properly strained post and batten fence on good posts should be doing its job for 20 to 30 years. What kills fences early is undersized strainer assemblies and foots where posts pull out, rust which in Rotorua can be a problem faster in some areas, and stock type — steers and bulls might damage fences with no electricity.
Do you do short runs and repairs?
Yes. Not every job is a full paddock line. If you have one broken section, we can come in and repair or replace it.
Do you supply the materials?
Yes, the cost of materials will be included in the quote I give you and I will transport them to your property with me.
